“Like” : The New Age Feed

Standard

Feedback is a formal as well as informal, integral part of the communication process  and today its relevance is not limited to the corporate sector or organisations but has entered the social media as well, where we tend to get paranoid on not getting enough likes or comments over the face book to which many of us would agree and considered positive.

Feedback is becoming synonymous with likes and comments over the social media where a “Like” is ‘understood’, where our thoughts, shares or pictures are accepted and approved by our friends . The comment section often stays empty or less where we care to oblige with the comment section only if something is of great interest.

The likability of the Like Button is growing at a very fast pace , where comments etc are becoming limited to some Blogger posts, LinkedIn , HBR, Inc. or the various Discussion forums etc. where one actually goes through the matter and after absorbing it finds it relevant enough to provide a comment.

It happens, how often do we go through all the blog posts, or even the other articles we read on different websites, actually there is information explosion around the globe, where we have views from eminent personalities as well as the common man, and thus the accumulation of so much of information demands to be explored and that too in so little time. And So It is impossible to go through each and every word and then to comment, as we can embarrass ourselves if we haven’t gone through the matter completely and may offer a different viewpoint and can be misunderstood by the author.

So to save all the time and embarrassment, the Like button comes to rescue . With Like getting liked, the author comes to know that his post  has been read and therefore liked, and appreciated for his endeavor.  The like offers the advantage of mutual understanding and encouragement for each other .

At the same time its becoming conventional and easier means of providing a Feed in place of Feedback.

So Everything’s Understood here.

  1. The point is that we have stopped loving ourselves and that is why we seek attention from others, we have stopped approving ourselves and that is why the “like” icon has started becoming more and more popular..why at all we should seek this approval from others..are we ourlseves not enough..this clearly proves that we are dependent on the society..we are day by day getting more fearful of the fact that society might not approve us..it is as if the society is making us..and we are nothing about the society..this way one day our own creativity will die and we will become slaves to the society…it will be as if the society is making is..and we are nothing….this is really sad that the “like” button is getting more popular are we are loosing ourselves completely…

There shall be no revolution in the future..we shall always bother the right path and the wrong path before making a decision…because a revolutionaries always defy the society..they always venture into the uncharted seas..we are loosing leadership skills…we are getting more and more scared..

This matter has to be understood and the whole things reversed..

Are we not good enough? Why at all we should need an approval?..this clearly proves that we are dependent on the society..we are day by day getting more fearful of the fact that society might not approve us..it is as if the society is making us..and we are nothing without the society..this way one day our own creativity will die and we will become slaves to the society…it will be as if the society is making us..and we are nothing….this is really sad that the “like” button is getting more popular and we are loosing ourselves completely…

  3. Nice article Shilpi! But I am completely agree with Arnab. This kind of feedback is often misleading as we can never sure whether somebody actually like our thoughts, pics or anything we share. This has becoming more like a virtual world norm to click like button but the fact is it’s not due to what we actually think of that articles, thoughts or whatever share on websites. It’s always feel nice and grt when somebody likes our thoughts or anything but we should always keep in mind that its not always genuine likes. We should approve and confident about ourself completely first…..and not rely on others approval. Likes definitely gives us nice feeling but as Arnab stated that we should not become slave of society. Anyways I like your perspective …..take care

    • Thank You Rachna dee, I believe in the same, you have a great point that feedback can be misleading and purposely serve as pleasing actions to make someone happy and feel good about them , And it is not a healthy way of doing as we become habitual and slaves to these unauthentic actions.
Thank you for sharing your inputs. Really Appreciated.
      Take care & Regards

  4. I agree that it is convenient and safe to push a like button. It is a risk to comment. When a blogpost is especially interesting to me I like to comment – if I’m not too sleepy after a long day… Even when I click the like button I am not saying I agree with all that was written, as I may just think it was well said and informative. In this particular case I both like and agree with just about everything you wrote in this post. 🙂

    Blessings ~ Wendy

    • Thank you so much for liking and commenting on my post wendy. And am glad to know that you agree to all the viewpoints i had in the post before liking it. This feels great. Another very interesting point that comes through your comment is that we may not agree to everything that’s there in the post but we still intend to push the like button. That’s being human.
      TC & Regards.

    • thank you for liking and your comments rajiv ji, really appreciated. And you are correct in saying its the 100% truth as we no longer have pure feedback from the readers it could be due to endless number of reasons but still as the authors we do wish to have feedback in the purest form.
      Regards
